CRACKED BOX

Cracked Box is a quilt I made for my granddaughter.  The fabrics are Kaffe Fassett’s.  A friend of mine had done a quilt with his striped fabric and I knew I would have to do one at some point.  The fabrics are cut into 3 to 4 inch stripes and then sewn together to form a box that is not quite right.  I love the colors.  The back is a  coordinating Kaffe Fassett pink flowered print.  50″ x 47″

The Cat in the Hat quilt was made for my granddaughter as a wall hanging.   Dr Seuss books have always been favorites in our home.  The characters have been machine appliqued to the background with machine and hand highlights added.  50″ x 32″

THE MISSING PIECE

This quilt was made for Charlie Pilliod. It was inspired by the book “The Missing Piece” by Shel Silvertein. I followed the story line (my condensed version) and quilted a continuous line telling the story of a circle looking for it’s missing piece, eventually finding the piece and decided that it was just fine without it. The quilt is 45″ x 65″, batik fabric, machine pieced and quilted.

EVAN’S FISH TANK

This quilt was made for Evan.  The fish, rocks, and cotton plants are raw edge appliqué.  Yarn, beads, painted cheesecloth, a shell and cotton batik fabrics were used to make the quilt.  I machined quilted and beads were added by hand.  What a fun piece to make!

ONE PETUNIA AND A BUNCH OF DAISIES

One Petunia and a Bunch of Daisies was made for Lauren.  Before Lauren was born she was referred to as Petunia by her parents and her big brother.  The room was going to have a daisy theme so I thought I’d add a petunia into the bunch of daisies. The daisies were appliquéd onto the quilt with the leaves only attached at the base.  The quilt is machine quilted, hand beaded and the flower petals were hand embroidered.

TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALL GAME

Take Me Out To The Ball Game was made for Ryan who will grow up to love the Chicago Cubs.  “Take me out to the ball game.  Take me out to the park.  Buy me some peanuts and cracker jacks.  I don’t care if I ever come back.  It’s one, two, three strikes, you’re out at the old ball park”.  I incorporated all the parts of this song into the quilt including an antique postcard of the park, a 3D hot dog, cracker jacks, a 3D antique child’s glove, an Ernie Banks baseball card, a ticket, the famous Wrigley Field entrance, the Cubs “C” and mascot.  There is the curse of the Billy Goat–a man used to take his billy goat to the games.  He was asked to get his billy goat out of there and never come back. The man put a curse on the team saying that they would never win a World Series.  And they haven’t!  I made a flap with the sign of the Billy Goat Tavern on it.  When the flap is lifted, you see the billy goat.
